– other conditions, such as diabetes, which can also affect nerves and muscles.

In nerve conduction studies, electrodes are placed on the skin, a mild electrical stimulus is applied at one location, and a response is recorded at another. In EMG, a small needle electrode is gently inserted into a muscle, recording its electrical activity at rest and when it contracts.

3. Electroencephalography (EEG) records the brain’s electrical activity through small electrodes placed on the scalp.  This is typically done for:

– seizures and epilepsy;

– loss of consciousness;

– changes in behavior and cognition;

– other general brain disorders.

Psychotherapy & men’s health

Dr. Gordon is a psychotherapist practicing psychotherapy who specializes in working with men and on men’s health issues. Although he also offers counsel to women, Dr. Gordon understands the particular challenges faced by men when it comes to entering the psychotherapy process. Many men who have problems in their lives or relationships find it difficult to take responsibility for their part or to accept that they may need some help in finding lasting solutions. Furthermore, asking for help can be seen as a sign of weakness or failure by many men.

Dr. Andrew Gordon strongly believes that this is far from the truth. Anyone who can face their shortcomings and reach out for support in the change process is a hero by any standard. It takes courage to change and even more courage to accept help in achieving it.

Dr. Gordon is offering psychotherapy and sex therapy services to men exploring their sexuality or experiencing sexual difficulties. For many men, sexual experience has been less than fulfilling or even non-existent at some point in their lives. During such periods, men often experience a great deal of shame and isolation. They do not know who to trust and therefore are challenged to find effective solutions to their problem. Many men think they should have the answers built-in and feel inadequate or less than a man if they find themselves questioning their sexuality or unable to engage in desired sexual activity.

Psychotherapy can help patients who want or need to explore their relationship to sex. Talking through these issues in a safe and confidential space with a neutral and qualified health care professional can allow for an honest exploration of problems related to male sexuality and sexual health issues. Meaningful solutions that meet men’s individual goals can be developed collaboratively with a qualified psychotherapist.
